Windscale Rifle Club CIC has a proud history stretching back to the 1950s, when a small group of around ten shooting enthusiasts based at the Windscale site — now known as Sellafield — came together with a shared passion for target shooting.
The club originally used land near the Calder Hall area for target shooting. Over the decades, Windscale Rifle Club has continued to develop, building a strong community around the sport and providing members with opportunities to enjoy safe, responsible and competitive target shooting.
Looking Towards the Future
The club is now entering an exciting new chapter. Our future at our current range facility at Drigg is coming to a close, with the expectation that a new range facility will be built at High Ling Bank, Gosforth, Cumbria.
This proposed new facility represents an important step forward for Windscale Rifle Club CIC and will help us continue our long-standing commitment to target shooting for years to come.
As we look ahead, we remain focused on maintaining the values that have shaped the club throughout its history: safety, accessibility, sporting excellence and a welcoming community.

Clay Pigeon shooting
Clay pigeon shooting should be fun, a little healthy competition is great but firstly. Enjoy it.
Clay pigeon shooting is a great way to hone your skills with a shotgun . In this area we have a couple of options to do this ,professional clay grounds and there are a couple of seasonal shoots that tend to operate throughout spring and summer.
Crabtree clay shoot located in the south of Cumbria is great professionally run clay ground and from personal experiance one of the best clay grounds in the area.

A nice compact shooting ground that I really enjoy shooting.
The compact shed produces some amazing clays and some others that will leave you asking "how the hell did I miss that?"
